Aki Takase and Daniel Erdmann work with students from the Jazz Institute Berlin to develop their own compositions and performance concepts and perform them together.
A project of transmission: experiences are to be shared with the younger generation of musicians, and of projection: where is our music headed? What is happening now, and what might the future hold? The linear timeline is suspended, and we want to combine good things from the past with ideas for the future in the present.

„Aries and Sagittarius“
Aries: The Drums
"Aries, the fiery first sign of the zodiac, is known for its boldness, energy, and intensity. As a leader, Aries tends to march to the beat of its drum, making the drum set the perfect instrument to represent this sign. Drums, with their powerful beats, mirror Aries’s strong-willed and dynamic nature. Just like the relentless tempo of the drums, Aries brings passion and vigor wherever they go." (worldmusicrecord.com)
Sagittarius: The Saxophone
"Sagittarius, the adventurous and free-spirited sign, is symbolized by the saxophone. The saxophone’s rich and soulful tones reflect Sagittarius’s love for exploration and freedom. The instrument’s improvisational nature aligns with the Sagittarian trait of following wherever the winds take them." (worldmusicrecord.com)
Students in Peter Weniger's saxophone class, as well as those of Heinrich Köbberling and Mario Würzebesser, present a diverse mix of musical styles. In various formations, they present their own pieces and interpretations that are in the jazz tradition and follow the motto "Aries and Sagittarius."
Under the direction of Prof. Heinrich Köbberling and Prof. Peter Weniger

„I am discovering the music as I do it“ – Paul Motian
Each musician has their own style, each ensemble has its own sound and their own playing is constantly being reflected and developed. From 7:00 pm pm onwards, the bands of the JIB will be on stage in the Georg Neumann Saal on three days and will present their work, which they have developed and consolidated in the course of the semester. Formations of different sizes and instrumentations will be on stage. The programme traditionally ranges from classical jazz to Latin, modern jazz and free improvisation. The focus is also on the students' own compositions.
